Els Breugelmans, Ph.D.

The future of retail: without physical stores and with direct-to-consumer channels?

Professor Dr. Els Breugelmans is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business of KU Leuven, Antwerp campus, where she is affiliated with the Research Unit Marketing Management. Her scientific research focuses on empirically modeling retail issues, including topics such as omni-channel purchasing behavior, retailer-manufacturer relationships, and loyalty programs. Her research has been published in top academic journals such as the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing and Journal of Retailing. She is AE of the Journal of Retailing and International Journal of Research in Marketing, and a member of the editorial review boards of Journal of Marketing and the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. She is often consulted by the written and spoken media to voice her opinion about recent retailing trends and evolutions.

Charting the Path Ahead: Marketing Where Innovation Meets Humanity and Data

George S. Spais Ph.D., FCIM, Adjunct Faculty Member, 1. Hellenic Open University, School of Social Sciences (Patras, Greece) and 2. Open University of Cyprus, Faculty of Humanity and Social Sciences (Nicosia, Cyprus)
His expertise includes promotion management, digital promotions, digital marketing, and marketing education. His research works have appeared in international, refereed, and indexed scholarly journals (including the Journal of Consumer Behaviour, Journal of Strategic Marketing, Journal of Promotion Management, Journal of Marketing Analytics, Thunderbird International Business Review, European Journal of International Management, and Marketing Education Review), conference proceedings (including conferences of the Academy of Marketing Science and the American Marketing Association) and book chapters. He serves as deputy editor (since 2024), senior associate editor (2023-2024), associate editor of the Journal of Promotion Management (2014-2023), and senior associate editor of the Journal of Consumer Behaviour (since 2024) and as associate editor of the same journal (2023-2024). As a guest editor, he has edited special issues for journal publications (Journal of Consumer Behaviour, Journal of Promotion Management and Journal of Marketing Analytics) and books (Cambridge Scholars Publishing). He is an Editorial Advisory Board Member of the Asia Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics (Emerald Publishing, UK), FIIB Business Review/FBR (Sage Publications, USA), and Journal of Business Case Studies (Clute Institute, USA). He is a member of the editorial boards of (in alphabetical order) the Asian Journal of Marketing, Frontiers in Communication, Innovative Marketing, International Journal of Consumers Studies, International Review of Management, Journal for Advancement of Marketing Education, Journal of Emerging Trends in Marketing and Management, Journal of Global Scholars of Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing Analytics, Journal of Marketing Education, and Marketing Education Review. He co-chaired the Marketing Communication and Advertising track at the MICA's 11th (2025) Annual Global Conference, the Promotions track at the 55th (2018), and the Cross-Cultural & Global Marketing track at the 53rd (2015) Annual Conferences of the Society for Marketing Advances. He is also acting as a regular reviewer for several leading international refereed marketing and business journals and academic conferences organized by academies, associations, and societies such as AMS, EMAC, EURAM, BAM, ANZMAC, AM, GAMMA, SMA, and IIMA. He is an elected Fellow Member (FCIM) and certified Chartered Marketer of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK). He worked as a freelance marketing consultant for small-medium sized profit and non-profit organizations and as a marketing consultant for the entrepreneurship-consulting program of the Small Enterprises’ Institute of the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen, and Merchants (“IME GSEVEE”). He is a trainer and educator for major significant Greek agencies, associations, and unions `{`such as the Greek National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government, the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship, and the Social Multicenter of ADEDY (Supreme Administration of the Greek Civil Servants Trade Unions)`}`. He is a member of the Academy of Marketing Science (USA), the European Marketing Academy of the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (Belgium), the Marketing Academy (UK), the American Marketing Association (USA), the Marketing Educators’ Association (USA), the EuroMed Academy of Business of the EuroMed Research Business Institute (Cyprus), the Greek Marketing Academy (Greece), Hellenic Institute of Marketing (Greece), and the Hellenic Adult Education Association.
